About Mount Carmel
Founded in 1952, Mount Carmel School is private, Catholic, coeducational, general academic, and college-preparatory school for students in grade 1-12. The student body consists of over 400, representing 5 countries, and 14 ethnicities. Mount Carmel is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and holds membership in the National Catholic Educational Association.

Graduation Requirements
All high school students must complete a minimum of 28 credits to graduate. One two-semester course equals one credit while semester courses equal ½ credit. Minimum requirements for graduation are: Theology (4), Literature (1), Composition (1), English (3), Science (3) (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Mathematics (3) (Algebra I, II and Geometry), Social Science (4) (NMI History, World History, U.S. History, Civics), Foreign Language (2) (Japanese and Spanish), Physical Education (2), Fine Arts (1), Computer (1), and Electives (4    ). Courses are offered at the College Preparatory and Advanced Placement levels. High school students must also complete twenty hours
of community service each year.

Advanced Placement Courses
Advanced Placement courses are only offered to 11th and 12th graders and include U.S. Government, U.S. History, English Literature and Composition, and Calculus AB. Mount Carmel requires students enrolled in Advanced Placement courses to take the corresponding Advanced Placement exam. Enrollment in Advanced Placement courses is by faculty recommendation and exam. There is no limit to the number of Advanced Placement courses a student may take per semester. An average of 43% of the senior class is taking at least one Advanced Placement Class. College Attendance About 80% of graduates continue on to a 4-year college and the remaining attend a 2-year college. Graduates go on to study at schools such as Westpoint (NY), Gonzaga University (WA), Seattle University (WA), Chaminade University (HI), University of Hawaii (HI), and the University of San Diego (CA). Recent graduates have also been accepted at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MA) Georgetown (D.C.), Perdue (IN), University of Southern California (CA), Tulane (LA), the Coast Guard Academy, and the Naval Academy.

Extracurricular Activities

Mount Carmel provides athletics such as volleyball,basketball, and paddling. Additional activitiesinclude National Forensics League, National Honor Society, Junior Statesmen of America, Mock Trial, Close-up, Drama, Spelling Bee, and Math Counts.
