ABOUT THE SCHOOL:

ABOUT THE SCHOOL

Mount Carmel School is a 1-12 school with approximately 580 students, and is the only Catholic school on the island. Our diverse faculty is made up of professionals from many ethnic backgrounds. Our faculty and staff come from the Philippines, Canada, the U.S. mainland, Guam, Jamaica and of course, the CNMI. The island of Saipan was settled by the Spanish in the 1500's, leaving the Catholic faith imbedded in the culture of the indigenous people. Today, a large majority of the island's population are practicing Catholics, leaving Mount Carmel School with a very important role both educationally and culturally.

Mount Carmel School is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Many of our graduates go on to study at schools such as Gonzaga University, Seattle University, Chaminade University, University of Hawaii and the University of San Diego. Recent graduates have also been accepted at Georgetown, Perdue, USC, Tulane, and the Coast Guard Academy. Mount Carmel School is very proud of the excellent education that it is able to provide for our small island population.

The islands of the CNMI have a rich history, as does Mount Carmel School. In 2002, Mount Carmel celebrated its Golden Jubilee, its 50th anniversary. The school has not only weathered the wrath of several super typhoons over the last 50 years, but it has also undergone many internal, organizational changes. One thing has never changed though, and that is the support that the island community has always shown to the school.

Our mission at Mount Carmel is "to educate the whole person to see with Christ's eyes." We also seek to educate the whole person spiritually, socially, morally and academically. At Mount Carmel School we don't just have a philosophy – we live it.
